

The speed and performance of the computer depends on the characteristics of the processor. Got the Task Manager fixed thanks to Ronnie's and your help, and I also ran the System File Checker as recommended by Alex and received no errors. If you need any more info just reply to this thread and I will try my best to give you anything you need. I can close task manager from the task bar though. task manager still opens to the services list, and has no tabs or minimize/maximize/close buttons. After logging back in I now have all my icons and my taskbar, and everything seems back to normal except for the task manager. I then logged off my profile through the ctrl-alt-del screen, and logged back in. I did a hard restart and logged in fine just like before, but still no icons/task bar and task manager still has no tabs or minimize/maximize/close buttons on the title bar. I switched to the services tab and scrolled down the list and then the tabs at the top of the window disappeared along with the minimize/maximize/close buttons on the title bar. I could open the task manager with ctrl+alt+del.

Can't open My Computer with keyboard shortcuts (Windows key + E) or start menu (Windows key). Booted kind of slow but nothing to strange, logged in, but when I logged in it shows my desktop background but no icons and no task bar.

I'm running Windows 7 build 7100 on this Laptop: Dell XPS m1530 Intel Core 2 Duo T8300 2.40GHz 4.00 GB of RAM (3.50 usable) NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT 160GB 7500RPM As for the problem, I shut down my computer last night, and restarted this morning.
